Associate Judge Chad M. Long is a candidate for Circuit Judge in the Illinois Ninth Judicial Circuit, which serves Knox, Warren, Henderson, McDonough, Hancock, and Fulton counties. Judge Long is running to fill the vacancy of retiring Chief Judge Raymond A. Cavanaugh.
Since his appointment to the bench on March 1, 2024, Judge Long has presided over a wide array of cases with a judicial temperament defined by fairness, respect, and a commitment to equal access to justice. His platform is built on the core principles of Experience, Integrity, and Service.
Prior to his judicial appointment, Judge Long dedicated 16 years to private practice as a well-respected attorney throughout the Ninth Circuit. His extensive legal background includes criminal law, family law, business law, probate and estate planning, and civil litigation.
Judge Long attended the University of Iowa, where he graduated with both a B.B.A. in Economics and a Juris Doctor. Judge Long and his wife, Monica, are both natives of Galesburg and graduated from Galesburg High School. After attending college, they chose to return to Knox County to raise their family, underscoring a deep personal investment in the region’s future. Judge Long and Monica have been together for 26 years and currently reside in Knoxville with their two sons.
Judge Long is focused on ensuring that the judiciary remains independent, with judges focusing on the Constitution and law, rather than partisan politics.
